Thanks to those who came to the meeting last night by the pool – we managed to escape the rain! Below is what we discussed for those who couldn’t attend.
Swift Team Meeting
Fitness, Competitive, and Masters Group
5:30pm Monday, October 30, 2006
Possible meeting every month to follow up points made in this meeting
Web site: www.swiftswimmingclub.com thanks to Alex Ward. Send pictures from meets, workouts, etc for site
Swim-a-thon: very important that everyone take part. Money for maintenance (pool blanket) and education. Book sale. Bake sale
BSF Individual Membership 2007: Kathy Dillette , BSF Public Relations Officer, will be at the Swim-a-thon all those 18 years and older who are Bahamian citizen and permanent residents to complete a membership and proxy form. Cost $25.00. 2007 is an election year for officers in the BSF. As a club we need to help keep “good” people in charge of the BSF – otherwise ……
Meets: BSF Calendar has been circulated via email, Notice Board, web page, etc. Anyone wishing to participate in meets must pay $100 to cover their meet expenses – explain. Emails go out at least 2 weeks before the event. All you have to do is respond with whether or not you will be able to swim in the meet. The coach will select the events you will swim.
BSC Meet – Nov. 10&11: email will go out Monday – please respond by Wed. Relays will be entered based on who enters meet. Because of relays you must plan to stay for the whole meet – Sat. only.
Winter Championships – Nov. 16-19, Plantation , FL : Zach, Laura, Jenna, Jonathan, Jade, Shaunte, Shonae qualified. Why? Come to most workouts, work the hardest.
Everyone should be trying to make this meet – most will make qualifying times at Nationals.
US Open – Nov.30 – Dec. 2, Indianapolis , IN : Jeremy, Alana, and Jenna.
Nationals – June 22-25 – Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday. Plan vacation accordingly. Need to be planning NOW if you want to be part of the TEAM. Do we want to place higher than 3rd??? Swift has VERY qualified coaches – are you taking advantage of this?
Workouts: directed mainly to Competitive Group – and those thinking about moving from the Fitness Group.
i) Attendance: 8 workouts offered, must come to min. of 5. Anything less you are only fooling yourself about getting into serious shape. If you can’t commit consider moving back to the Fitness Group.
ii) Reasons: a small committed team will lead to a big committed team whereas a big sloppy team will always remain a big sloppy team.
Example: SBSC 1990 70+ competitive kids
SWIFT 1990-99 became strong competitive club
iii) New attitude: A team that
- takes workouts serious by getting in on time and working hard
- wants to get in shape and improve their times
- wants to compete in meets to see where they are at with their training. eg.DSC meet warm up.
- wants to be competitive at Nationals 2007
11. Conclusion: As parents/guardians you want your children to be doing something healthy, safe, and fun with their time. We are here to help you and your kids with their commitment to the sport of swimming so they can reach there full potential.
